For many years, I wrote short articles, known as Mathematical Miniatures, in the Newsletter of the New Zealand Mathematical Society. Now that I have given up this pleasant task, I have decided to continue to use the same name to describe a new syle of recreational mathematics article, for inclusion within these pages. They will start with
